Winter Workouts to Beat Winter Weight Gain

Don’t feel like warming up your car to go to the gym? Invest in some dumbbells and a stash of fitness DVDs and get fit in your living room. With your gym at home, all you have to do is roll out of bed and press ‘play.’

Attention shoppers: Walking around the mall does double duty — burning calories while you get your errands done. To get the best burn, intersperse 2-minute intervals of fast walking into your regular pace.

An intense workout, like jumping rope, burns calories in a short amount of time. Jump ropes are inexpensive and light enough to pack when you travel. Just remember to wear a good pair of shock-absorbent shoes. [Read more...]

The Real Happy Meal

This is your year to transcend and thrive! The right diet and lifestyle can be a blueprint to build over-the-top, fired-up metabolism, cellular vibrancy, mental and emotional clarity and inspiration. Diet comes from the Greek word diaita, which means, way of life. It is nearly impossible to sustain and thrive with a healthy diet alone; that is, in the absence of a healthy way of living. A healthy diet is integrally connected to a healthy outlook, positive daily rituals and experiences of movement, service, community, intimacy, friendship creativity and purpose. When your world is intentionally full with these practices your diet (almost magically) tends to be full of nourishment and satisfaction. When your life is more ‘sweet,’ you tend to crave less sugar. If you want to make good on your healthy eating intentions this year and beyond consider stocking your day and life with these synergistic forms of nourishment while you stock your fridge and pantry: deep friendships, unbridled play, purposeful work and service, spiritual connection and community (no additives, no preservatives and nothing artificial). Practicing positivity is requires discipline, which quickly becomes “blissipline” for as you learn how to grow your own positivity you become more able to create greater joy, fulfillment and peace for yourself and for those around you.

Positively Eating

We love to eat well! The Positivity Plan is all about eating well and fully enjoying the experience from shopping to preparing to eating-it’s all good! The plan is built on powerful and inspiring principles of health and wellness.

  • Mediterranean style eating: The plan is built on “clean eating” which is inherent to the Mediterranean Diet, which hundreds of studies show to be one of the most effective eating plans to help prevent a variety of chronic diseases and promote a high level of vitality and overall longevity. Rich in fiber, healthy fats, lean proteins and metabolically supportive complex carbohydrates, the plan is both easy to follow and fully delicious! The Mediterranean style of eating is naturally rich in antioxidants, which have anti-aging and disease-preventing benefits. This plan is rich in a variety of colors; the broader the range in colors, the greater the antioxidant power! Focus on eating a rainbow of colors every day! [Read more...]

Motion and Emotion

If there were a support group for people who loved (and are addicted) to exercise, I would volunteer to be their lead facilitator. I have always loved exercise. When I was younger I “used” exercise as a means to escape emotional pain and other unhealthy addictions. Exercise was a way for me to connect to myself and others in an empowering way and helped me feel so much better about myself and about life. Today I still appreciate the emotional, physical and spiritual rewards I gain from vigorous daily exercise. Moving and sweating each and every morning has become a ritual so important to me that I literally plan every business trip making sure I will have access to a gym or exercise facility early in the morning. Whether you are in need of an affirmative mental/emotional shift, in desire of shedding a few (or more) pounds, or looking to create a more vibrant and healthy life, then I submit one sure-fire positive return on your investment through daily exercise. Embrace exercise in all of its many blessings with enthusiasm and gratitude today. [Read more...]

Living with Excellence

Even with the best intentions and most diligent planning, there will inevitably be times when you are in the throes of cravings or feeling vulnerable. When your focus is blurred and your plan is faltering I urge you to STOP and try one of these techniques before making a decision about food.

BREATHE
Breathe through your nose fully and deeply, using your whole torso. Then out through your mouth. Breathing is something you can do at any time, and it costs absolutely nothing. It helps you become less irritated, less depressed and less prone to such problems as anxiety, muscle tension, headaches and fatigue (all of which are symptoms of low blood sugar). That’s right, deep breathing can help you beat food cravings by bringing you back to a calm, centered state from which you can make smart decisions. [Read more...]
